Ophiucus Print ("The 13th Sign)

11” x 14” Digital Print

High quality digital reproduction of original paintings from Julie Armbruster’s New Constellations Series. Beginning with the patterns of the stars in the 12 zodiac configurations, Julie converted the stars into eyeballs, then constructed the creatures and environments around the eyeballs. The ancient zodiac signs were originally created by the Babylonians over 3,000 years ago to tell stories and explain that which was unexplainable, Julie’s interpretations/characters attempt to do the same thing; Julie invites the viewer to invent their own stories based upon her imagery.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:

Ophiuchus (/ɒfiˈjuːkəs/) is a large constellation located around the celestial equator. Its name is from the Greek Ὀφιοῦχος “serpent-bearer”, and it is commonly represented as a man grasping the snake that is represented by the constellation Serpens. Ophiuchus was one of the 48 constellations listed by the 2nd-centurey astronomer Ptolemy, and it remains one of the 88 modern constellations. It was formerly referred to as Serpentarius and Anguitenens.
